It was his choice and it might not be a cost to him if he couldn't appreciate what you call "the miracles of an ordinary life". The cost would be for the people involved with him. This guy has shown so many questionable behaviours yet still gets hooray-ed by society and media all the time. Don't think it's just "Elon Musk's definition of success" - it's more than that.
